Best Books For Kids By Shelley Rotner
One my favorite early childhood development authors is Shelley Rotner. Her photographic books are inspirational, educational and entertaining for the little ones. Shelley Rotner specializes in portrait and travel photography, which is how most of her stories are actually told. I strongly recommended Shelley's books for kids for three and four year old toddlers, although we started reading her books to our little one when he was about 20 months old. He particularly became interested in her books after his second birthday.

LOTS OF FEELINGS

Best Books For Kids by Shelley Rotner
When my son was about 20 months old, I started searching for a book for kids that would help teach him about feelings. I came across Lots of Feelings. This book has a photograph of a child on each page, who is experiencing a particular emotion. There are a few words per page naming the emotion. I like that this kids book has photographs of real children dealing with real emotions.

Reading To Kids Benefits
Learning empathy is of the utmost importance for children. Learning to read another's face helps little ones become empathetic. This book for kids can help toddlers identify the emotions they are feeling. Feelings can be scary, but I have found putting a name to a feeling helps my son calm down and feel better. After reading this book, he made a game out of naming emotions. He will tell me to be frustrated or sad and I pretend to say something in a frustrated or sad voice. This kids book is a tool that can be used to help your little one better express him/herself.

SHADES OF PEOPLE

Best Books For Kids by Shelley Rotner
This is a photographic book for kids with simple text on the pages containing the message that it is what is inside that counts, not the color of one's skin. Technically, I classify this as a preschool book, but my two year old likes to look at the pictures of all the different children. He enjoys looking at children faces for some reason.

Reading To Kids Benefits
The photographs are very bright and cheerful and show children of of different races and skin tones happily interacting with one another. My son does not exactly understand the message of the book, but we view skin color as a non-issue. This book for kids can be a tool to teach that message. It could be useful for sparking conversation possibly with an older three or four year old. In the meantime, we will enjoy the lovely photographs.

GOOD-BYES
by Shelley Rotner

Best Books For Kids by Shelley Rotner
Good-Byes by Shelley Rotner has a similar format like the author's other early child development books. It is a story told through photographs and pictures. In this story book for kids, she talks about Good-Byes outlining a variety of different situations in which people say good-bye to each other.

Reading To Kids Benefits
This kids book teaches children a valuable lesson, which is that good-byes are a normal part of our life. Through a series of every-day situations, the story teaches about the acceptance of this inevitable, and sometimes sad, part of our life. Naturally, for children good-byes are often seen as sad events. This book for kids is a good attempt to conceptualize and bring little ones closer to the acceptance of the act of everyday separation.
