Once your baby is ready for solids, teaching healthy eating habits is one of the best gifts you can give to your child. This will set the stage for a potential future overall healthy lifestyle. Healthy habits go long way in supporting baby brain growth and early child development. It is important to introduce your baby and toddler to a variety of healthy foods. It may take 10 to 15 tries before a baby or toddler accepts a new food, so don't dismay if he doesn't like something the first few times. Here is an interesting tidbit; breast fed babies actually taste foods that mom eats. If mom eats a variety of food, baby will be sampling a variety too. Therefore, it is natural to conclude that on some level mom’s eating habits are being taught and passed onto her baby before mom even knows it. This awareness alone should result in improved eating habits in moms, and subsequently, develop good and healthy eating habits in babies. Also, keep in mind that baby will observe yours eating habits, so even if you are teaching what is good for her, she will likely mimic what you do, and not what you say.
